The encounter of Japanese traditional technique and modern design!
Hikone is proud of more than 350 years of butsudan, or household Buddhist altar production. Hikone Butsudan is designated as Traditional Craft of Japan by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry.
“chanto” is a newly created brand, which Inoue Butsudan Inc. established with Takumi Shimamura, an industrial designer, with the aim of exploiting the pre-eminent craftsmanship, and expanding the product line beyond butsudan.
Artisans of Hikone Butsudan are now producing chic café utensils designed by Takumi Shimamura, using only natural materials, such as lacquer and wood.
Today chanto products are sold at famous department stores as gift items.
